The gospels paint a vivid picture of religious men who diligently practised rituals with little understanding of the greater realities these rituals pointed to. Blinded by confidence in their own righteousness, they failed to see their rebellious hearts that opposed God and his purposes. Are we also like them, placing greater faith in rituals over God’s truth? And, has this led to a constant striving for righteousness, ignoring God’s glorious invitation to enter into his rest?
